The Michigan Reconnect program has expanded to allow more Michigan residents, including current community college students, to earn a degree or skills certificate tuition-free. Join us and learn more!

Now more Michigan residents, including already enrolled community college students, can earn a degree or skills certificate, tuition-free.

  1. To be eligible for Michigan Reconnect expansion, students must:
  2. Be at least 21 years of age.
  3. Apply and enroll in a community or tribal college no later than fall semester 2024.
  4. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  5. Have lived in Michigan since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
  6. Have a high school diploma or equivalent or certificate of completion.
  7. Have not yet completed a college degree.

To maintain eligibility, students must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Continue to be a Michigan resident.
  2. Maintain enrollment in a Pell-eligible program at a community or tribal college leading to an associate degree or industry-recognized certificate or credential.
  3. Earn at least 12 credits each academic year, once the individual begins coursework.
  4. Maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by the institution or a cumulative 2.0 GPA since becoming a Michigan Reconnect Scholarship recipient.
  5. File the FAFSA for each academic year.
