What is an Islamic will and how should a Muslim utilize the legal system in order to plan for this world and the next. |
This workshop will allow participants to understand the concepts of wills, trusts, and planning, from both a legal and an Islamic point of view. The workshop will cover the concept of Islamic wills and whether or not they become obligatory for the individual. The workshop will also discuss the rules, practices, and ethics of writing an Islamic will. The workshop will also cover the Islamic system of inheritance as outlined in the verses of the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Holy Prophet (s) and the Ahl al-Bayt (a).
In addition, it will provide an overview of what makes a will legally valid, and how a Muslim can use a will for proper planning. A Muslim should ensure that their wishes are not only in line with Islamic practices but are also enforceable in a court of law. The workshop will discuss trusts and their advantages in ensuring a legally valid execution of an Islamic will. Finally, the workshop will discuss some complementary planning strategies, such as life insurance and retirement planning.
Anyone who is interested in putting in place a legally enforceable Islamic will and/or trust, or learning more about Islamic wills and trusts in general.
This session is best suited to individuals ages 18+.
